Weatherization
The purpose of Weatherization is to increase the energy efficiency of homes for low-income people-primarily the elderly, disabled, and families with children. The program reduces heating and cooling cost while improving the health and safety of its clients. Applicants must meet federal poverty guidelines to be eligible for assistance. A technician conducts an energy audit on single-family, multi-family, or mobile home dwellings. Diagnostic equipment is used to identify air infiltration imbalances and areas of heat loss. Technicians also evaluate related health and safety conditions, such as carbon monoxide hazards, gas leaks, or moisture problems. Weatherization crews install the most cost effective energy efficient measures, based on the results of the energy audit.
